The traditional music of Africa, given the vastness of the continent, is historically ancient, rich and diverse, with different regions and nations of Africa having many distinct musical traditions. Music in Africa is very important when it comes to religion. Songs and music are used in rituals and religious ceremonies, to pass down stories from generation to generation, as well as to sing and dance to. Traditional music in most of the continent is passed down orally (or aurally) and is not written. In sub-Saharan African music traditions, it frequently relies on percussion instruments of every variety, including xylophones, djembes, drums, and tone-producing instruments such as the mbira or kalimba.
Traditional Music Channel is for everyone who has a passion for music and cultural heritage.

In Zimbabwe, police have widened their security crackdown after protests against spiralling fuel prices turned violent. They’ve made more than 600 arrests – among them, a high profile critic of President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The government doubled fuel prices at the weekend in a bid to ease the country’s economic crisis.

Dismissed Zimbabwean vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly fled the country for fear of his safety. Media reports from Zimbabwe state that he has issued a direct challenge to the long ruling president Robert Mugabe and his wife, Grace, saying Zimbabwe is not their personal property. He’s vowed to ultimately return to Zimbabwe to lead the party. Until his dismissal earlier this week, Mnangagwa was seen as the natural successor to 94- year old Mugabe.
Reports from Zimbabwe suggest that the country’s police are treating the country’s former vice president Phelekezela Mphoko as a fugitive. He apparently fled before he could be questioned by anti-corruption law enforcement officials. Mphoko served alongside current President Emmerson Mnangagwa when former President Robert Mugabe was ousted by the military in November 2017. But Mphoko and Mnangagwa have fallen out.
Mphoko’s lawyer Zibusiso Ncube has refuted reports that Mphoko is a fugitive….
He now joins us on the line…
